Initially founded by Sally Denahy and Chris Dinneen, La Monique Perfumery & Candlery was about honouring Sally’s sister Monique Denahy, a victim of domestic violence sadly murdered by her partner in 2015. Sally and Chris wanted to raise awareness for domestic violence as well as find a way to donate to Sexual Assault and Family Violence Centre (SAFV).
But the product has proven far more popular and demand sees the awareness message transforming beyond the founders dreams.
Sally Denahy says, ‘When I walk in to La Monique Perfumery & Candlery Queenscliff each morning, I feel Monique is here. It always smells beautiful and warm and welcoming and that reminds me of my sister – she was a beautiful and loving person.’
‘We wanted to do something to make people aware of domestic violence,’ says Sally. The sales and customer feedback have been a great surprise to both founders who together produce the La Monique handcrafted products.
Initially planning a candle and diffuser range, La Monique is now expanding their ‘Monique infusion’ to soaps, sprays and moisturisers. For the youngest of customers, the founders have created Goat’s Milk Soaps without scent for babies or scoops of ice-cream soaps in a sundae cup for children. All La Monique products are made with only the best of Australian ingredients – even the labelling and packaging is made in Australia.
There will be no escaping a Monique infusion. If it’s not body products and air sprays that go home with the visitor it will be difficult to pass up a fresh bunch of flowers and/or avoid sitting in the exuberant space for a wine and a little charcuterie.
POINT LONSDALE IS A TOWN OF STRIKING CONTRASTS.
There are two diverse sides to this Victorian coastal town; the rugged landscape of a village situated at one the headlands of the Bellarine Peninsula and the calmness of a protected foreshore.
