BASILS FARM – DISCOVER & ENJOY
Adopting sustainable farming practices are a significant part of the vision for the property. In addition to growing a pesticide free, edible kitchen garden, the farm has also established extensive market gardens and orchards. Farm animals have also been introduced including chickens, Indian Runner ducks, “Baby Doll” doll sheep and llamas.
Sustainability, local producers, seasonal produce and artisan wine provide the foundation for educational workshops and wine and food events and dinners which are held regularly throughout the year. We also offer corporate and private group wine tastings, which can be tailored to suit any requirement.
MORE THAN A WINERY
Whilst wine is at the heart of our business, we are in a continual process of extending the services, facilities and activities at Basils Farm.
As you enter Basils Farm you will see our recently planted rows of shiraz, chardonnay and pinot noir varietals. Added to our current site the Olive Block planted in 2013, it will increase our vineyards to over 10 acres of production.
Our cellar door offers wine tastings and sales of the Basils Farm range of wines. Visitors also have the opportunity to sample local olive oil and house made preserves and relishes. The outdoor bar area provides the perfect location to kick off your next celebration or to enjoy a quiet drink with friends.
Basils Farmhouse style Café provides seating for 45 and the Pavilion seats 100. The landscaped gardens allow visitors to absorb the breathtaking views across Swan Bay. Even the kids can have fun in our large sandpit and playing outdoor games.
BASILS FARMHOUSE CAFE
Seats 45 indoors and our Pavilion seats 100. Additionally, an extensive grassed area surrounded by landscaped gardens provides seating for over 100. Sit amongst the mature fig and citrus trees and absorb the breathtaking views across the lawned area and potager garden to Swan Bay and the historic township of Queenscliff. The kids can also have fun, playing outdoor games, digging in the sandpit or exploring the edible garden.
From September to April visitors can enjoy our “Sunday Sessions” – a relaxed vibe, featuring acoustic tunes from talented local musicians, every Sunday afternoon. We also have live music every Saturday in January from 1.30-4.30pm.
Our seasonal menu always includes fresh produce from of our own gardens. Don’t be surprised if you see one of the kitchen staff scurry past your table and out the door headed to the potager garden… then pass you on the way back loaded with armfuls of freshly picked produce. Chances are it’s about to be served up to you for lunch.
It’s who we are and what we do.
Sustainability and supporting local producers is important to us. If it’s not fresh out of our garden, it’s direct from one of our specialty local producers – Farm Foods Queenscliff, Cheese from Drysdale Cheeses and Apostle Whey, Bannockburn Chicken, Drysdale Farm Fresh, milk from Inglenook Dairy, extra eggs from Wes Eggs and coffee beans specially roasted for us locally by Woolshed.
Basils Café offers visitors the opportunity to enjoy the full range of Basils Farm wines including – Kiltynane/Basils Reserve, Basils Farm and Farmhouse, in addition to a selection of local boutique beers, juices and sparkling drinks.
